What’s that one resolution that will really make the difference for us? Well, for email marketers the answer is clear- combining your email efforts with social media channels.
Lately, the amount of bulk email marketing received by most recipients has just reached crazy levels. Therefore most readers just sift through their messages and really choose only those that they feel come from trusted sources and bring them some sort of value. Recent data also shows that even though email is still at the top when it comes to sending messages, social networks such as Twitter and Facebook are becoming serious competitors- sometimes they even beat out email when it comes to connecting people with a particular message.
What happens with social media channels is that messages are often shared between friends and relatives- and those are people we trust. Trust brings added value, which leads to higher conversion results. A link from friends on twitter or a post on a Facebook wall is more likely to be read than some retailer that sends daily sales emails. Those continuous emails can become annoying and are oftentimes left unopened- even if it’s a retailer we normally like.
Because shared emails bring us an increased sense of value and validity it ultimately drives a higher return on investment. This, as email marketers, is obviously what we ultimately want.
So really, there is no avoiding that resolution you must make to integrate your efforts with social media channels. This means working with your email vendor and your email design firm. You should even work with your email copywriter in getting to promote sharing emails virally to other emails and through any of the social networks.
