Are your mailings fulfilling their objectives? Are they doing the utmost to keep subscribers interested? It’s not enough to just drop an email in someone’s inbox. You must get them to open the mail, read it, and interact with it. Here are important responsibilities on your end to keep that message from becoming a lost cause or a nice accessory to the trash folder!
So- what are these 5 responsibilities?
What is it that you must do to get the most value out of your mailings? It’s all pretty clear and easy- here you go:
- Identify Yourself
- Brand Your Mailings
- Tweet
- Don’t forget to say Thank You!
- Write Excellent Content
Okay, sounds great in theory, but how do we implement these rules? Well, since you ask-here you go:
Identify Yourself
First of all, when we get an email most important and obvious thing- we want to know who its’ from. Make sure to place your name or your company’s brand name as the sender. This will increase the likelihood of the email being opened in those vital first few seconds when the subscriber actually gets it.
Brand Your Mailings
Is your brand being emphasized in the mail? Does it have the look you want it to have? It’s very important to put your brand name or logo at the top left of the email. This will persuade the reader to continue on. This also applies to emails on mobile platforms- the receiver of the message will have an easier time identifying your brand if they do not have to scroll down the screen.
Where are the most devoted and urbane social media people hanging out these days- you got it- Twitter! If you want to reach them you better get onto twitter. In addition, this will also get them on real-time search engines, such as Google now.
Don’t forget to say Thank You!
I guess those thank you lessons we learned as children keep coming into play everywhere in life- including email marketing! Should be obvious- right? Well, sometimes we tend to forget to let our new subscribers know that we care. We must not forget this. We can even go beyond and sometimes offer them a free reward, report, or coupon. These event driven mailings are called “autoresponders”. They can be anything from one-shot deals to email courses or multi-step marketing sequences.
Write Excellent Content
This part is very individual obviously, but keep one important thing in mind- are you reaching out to all possible customers? In addition it’s a good idea to try and import opted-in subscribers from other services.
Simple enough! But in practice…
These responsibilities seem easy enough. However, many publishers haven’t been doing this for their lists. Just remember that each task takes only a few minutes and will dramatically increase your productivity. So good luck improving your game within the upcoming year!
